My ratings
I stayed in the Vila Thai, Langkawi in June 2017. Based on my experience I rate this hostel 3.4 out of 5
Why did I book this hostel
During the last leg my backpack trip in Malaysia, I visited Langkawi. I booked a hostel named ‘Street Monkey backpackers hostel’, but probably due to overbooking the hotel manager took me to Vila Thai. She assured me that my stay experience will be good at Vila Thai. So this is how circumstances made me stay at Vila Thai.
My experience
After I reached there, I took a tour of the dormitory and the facilities available. I found it was closer to Cenang beach than the hostel which I booked. So I decided to stay there. The girl at the reception helped me to find a shortcut for the Cenang beach. The next morning a friendly boy at the reception, Apit helped me to make a board for Hitchhiking. Watch this video and you’ll see how quickly we became friends.
The dormitory had over 18 beds. It was a mixed dormitory non-airconditioned room. Room and bed linen was neat and clean. The bed where I slept was comfortable. It had an electric socket and a small fan. Though it was quite hot that day. 2 Toilets were inside the dormitory. Both were clean. A refrigerator and lockers were also available for the service. Don’t forget to carry your padlock whenever you stay in a hostel. Vila Thai provided another locker for big bags outside the room.
There is a kitchenette in the common room. The common area has a lot of books, games and plenty of maps and other literature. But I preferred to chitchat with fellow backpackers. There is also a laundry facility for the guests. Other than the dormitory, Vila Thai also offers rooms. You can check their tariff online.
How much I paid
I paid 15 Ringgit or 225 Indian Rupees for one day in this hostel.
