Malaysia Airlines : Delhi to Bali via Kuala Lumpur

This is the first video of the Bali travel video series. I travelled from Delhi to Bali with Malaysia Airlines. The itinerary is divided into two legs. Delhi to Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia Airlines- MH191

Just like most of the international flights, MH191 was also a late night flight from Delhi. We took off from Delhi’s IGI Airport to reach Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It was a comfortable flight of 5 hours. The aircraft was Airbus A303, a widebody aircraft. I enjoyed the in-flight entertainment, comfortable reclining seats and relished the vegetarian food. Although it would be better if the flagship carrier of Malaysia can offer more variety of food for vegetarians. The aircraft landed at KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) in the next morning.

Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar, Bali: Malaysia Airlines- MH715

After a layover of 3 hours, my next flight was MH715 to Denpasar (Bali) in Indonesia. It took another 3 hours to reach Denpasar, Bali. Unlike the previous one, It was not a widebody aircraft. The leg space was relatively less. But rest all the services were same.

Bali: Visa on Arrival

After reaching Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport I met all other group members with whom I was going to travel for the next 3-4 days. The first formality after landing was to get the visa. Indonesia offers visa on arrival for Indians. The best part is it does not cost anything to get the visa. Unlike Thailand, where until December 2017 the visa on arrival fees was 4000 Indian Rupees (2000 Baht), Indonesia visa is totally free. So it was a simple process of getting the visa. We just stood in the queue and got our passport stamped. So no need of getting Indonesian currency, Rupiah (IDR) before coming to Indonesia. After getting the visa and customs formalities done, you can use the ATMs or the Money exchangers to withdraw IDR.

My last day of Russian trip : Dasvidaniya Russia

This video is about the last day of my Russian trip-2017. Time to say Dasvidanidya Russia.
On the early morning of 1st October, I reached Omsk from Novosibirsk. The 8-hour long journey was very comfortable. Watch this video to know the cost of the train ticket and how did I get the ticket at Novosibirsk train station.

This was the second time I was at the Omsk station. Watch this video to see my first ever experience at Omsk train station. After arriving from Novosibirsk in the early morning, I used the free toilet facility to freshen up. Then I relaxed for few hours in the waiting hall. Waiting halls are called Sitting area in Russian train stations. Sitting area is elegant and clean. The entire station’s architecture is beautiful. I clicked some pictures of the beautiful interiors and also enjoyed the free WiFi at Omsk train station.

Omsk train station to Omsk Aiport

There is a bus terminal just outside the Omsk train station. According to the information, I got from the people; Bus number 60 goes from Omsk train station to the Airport. The fare is around 20 Ruble. However, I could not travel on that bus as it was said to non-functional for that day. I booked Uber cab with the help of Google Maps. Uber charged 121 Rubles from the train station to the Omsk airport.

Omsk does not have a big airport. My flight was scheduled around 4:30 pm and I had around 3-4 hours to gather significant information about the airport. WiFi is available for free at the airport, but you have to log-in after every half an hour to use the service. Drinking water is also available for free. No English – The crucial information on signboards and indicators are not displayed in English. It was a challenge to find someone from the airport staff who could speak English.
Immigration and Security check was smooth for me.

Astana Airport

After a 50 minutes flight from Omsk, I reached Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. Thanks to Air Astana, the flying experience was quite good. But I must admit that the ground staff of Air Astana has to improve a lot. In Astana, I had to struggle a lot to find someone from the airlines. They do not have any office in the terminal building where I landed. I was given wrong information by the ground staff that in the next flight to Delhi I will not be served vegetarian meals. I was hungry at that time and angry at the carrier.

Finally, I arrived at Delhi at midnight. Flying from Astana to Delhi with Air Astana was a good experience. The crew members were very courteous and professional. ‘Rakhmit’ (thanks in the Kazakh language) to Air Astana Cabin crew.

Previously these cab services also used to charge exorbitant amount from the passengers by imposing surge pricing on them. But now these cabs charge the normal fare. You can get an instant discount of Rs 50 on your first 3 rides with Uber by using the code ‘UberCleanIndia‘. Likewise, You can also use code ‘D4RGY4‘ for OLA cabs to get discounted rides. Download Uber or Paytm like applications from the playstore of your smartphone. Also, due the to competition from their rivals they occasionally come out with attractive discounts for their users. I have personally used these discounts and have sometimes travelled for almost free.

How to book a cab at Delhi airport

  1. Use Uber or Ola by downloading their apps on your smartphone
  2. Use code UberCleanIndia for Uber and D4RGY4 for Ola to get discount (only for first timers)
  3. Search for the cab by choosing the PICK UP point
  4. Enter the destination and get the estimated fare
  5. Book the cab and wait for few minutes until the cab arrives
  6. Reach your destination and make the payment
  7. Payments can be made through cash or digital wallets (like Paytm, Mobikwik) or Credit/Debit card

Delhi Metro Airport express runs between ‘New Delhi’ to ‘Dwarka Sector 21’ metro stations. This is the best way to reach Delhi Airport from the city centre. It takes 19 minutes to reach Airport from New Delhi. Free luggage trolleys and paid porters are available at the entry gates and platforms at all Metro stations of the Airport Express Line. Passengers can also avail ‘check-in’ facility from New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations. Presently, this facility is presently limited to Air India and Jet Airways.

Airport bound passengers can obtain their boarding pass at the city check-in counter and check-in the luggage as well. Their checked-in baggage will be transferred to IGI Airport’s Terminal-3.  You may contact Helpline Numbers of Air India and Jet Airways or DMRC Helpline No. 155370 for more details on City Check-in.

Reach the doorstep of your hotel

Airport express is also the best way to reach hotel hubs in Delhi. Its stations like Aerocity, Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi connects plenty of hotels. It also connects Paharganj, which is the hub of affordable hotels. To reach Paharganj, get down at New Delhi station. Another place which is quite popular among tourist is Connaught Place (renamed as Rajiv Chowk). Many tourist attractions, monuments, hotels, parks, shopping and commercial establishments are located in Connaught Place. To reach CP, leave the Delhi metro Airport Express at Shivaji Stadium. Another station Aerocity is recently developed and offers some renowned chain of hotels.

Airport Metro Timings and frequency

As on August 2016, ‘Delhi Metro Airport Express’ is available after a gap of every 15 minutes. The first metro train from New Delhi metro station starts at 4.45 AM and the last train at 11.30 PM. The last station of Airport Metro is Dwarka Sector 21. Service from Dwarka starts at 4.45 AM and ends at 11.15 PM. 

3 stations with the same name : Don’t get confused  

New Delhi ‘Airport express’ metro station is adjacent to New Delhi station of ‘Yellow line’ (another metro route of DMRC) and New Delhi Railway station of Indian Railways network. Both the Metro stations are interconnected, whereas New Delhi Railway station is located 100 meters away. Check this map.

Video : How to go from T1-D to T-3 of New Delhi Airport

This video tells how to travel between Terminal-1 (T-1C & T-1D) and Terminal-3 of Delhi Airport & vice-versa. Also, tells how to reach the nearest Metro station from both the terminals. Watch this video if you are looking for how to go to T3 from terminal 1D.  I have also shown how to travel by a city bus from T1-D to T-3 of New Delhi Airport. Actually, it is the cheapest and fastest medium to do the airport terminal transfers in Delhi

Difference between T1 and T3 of Delhi airport

Delhi Airport has 2 active terminals. Terminal 1, is used by low-cost carriers such as GoAir, IndiGo and SpiceJet. Terminal 1-C is used for domestic arrivals, and Terminal 1-D is used for departures. Terminal 3 is used for all International flights and few full fare airlines having domestic flights in India.

How to reach T3 from T1D

The distance between T3 and T1D is approximately 8 kilometres. Presently, there is no Metro Train connectivity between them.  The following are the only options to connect T3 with T1 and vice-versa.

  1. GMR – FREE SHUTTLE BUS

Free shuttle bus runs after every 20 minutes. This is the official bus service by DIAL (Delhi International airport limited), who is the operator company of Delhi Airport. Only those having a connecting flight from either of the terminals are entitled to avail the free service. Passengers are supposed to present their boarding pass to get their complimentary coupon before boarding the bus. Free Shuttle bus kiosk is also located near the Pillar number 10 of the Arrivals (Ground Floor) of T-3. Watch this video for more information. 

For more information on this service, passengers can approach the Duty Manager inside the airport or Airport Enquiry kiosks.

  1. DTC – INTER-TERMINAL SHUTTLE BUS

Delhi Government’s official bus service – DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) also operates its Inter-terminal shuttle bus between T3 and T1 (1C/1D) round the clock. This service is generally available after every 15-20 minutes. Passengers are charged Rs 25 for a one-way journey. It takes around 20 minutes to reach its destination. On the way, the bus halts for few seconds at AeroCity Metro station to drop and pick-up the passengers. This way the service can also be utilised for travelling between AeroCity Metro station and Terminal-1. No boarding pass is needed to travel in this bus.

  1. CABS / TAXI

Besides Delhi Police Prepaid taxi service, there are few application based cab services like Uber and Ola.

My first preference

I always prefer travelling by the city bus while travelling between T3 & T1D. This is the cheapest way to travel between both the terminals. After this, I would prefer to take an Uber or Ola cab, which are mobile application based cab service. They are convenient to approach and user-friendly unless you do not know to operate smartphone-based apps. They also occasionally come out with offers and deals, which can really help you to save money on travelling.

T-3 is 15 kilometres away from New Delhi railway station area, whereas T-1 is about 16 kilometres away. In this post, you’ll get to know about the 3 best ways to reach Delhi Airport from the city.

Delhi Airport, also known as Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is situated in the south-west of the city. It has two active terminals – Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 (T1D/T1C). Terminal-3 (popularly known as T3) should not be confused with International airport as it also hosts domestic operations of Full-service airlines. Terminal-1 is used for Domestic flights of Low-cost carriers (GoAir, IndiGo and SpiceJet). T-1C is used for Arrivals and T1-D for Departures.

A bike trip from Delhi to Nepal

The Himalayas are not far from Delhi. Just drive for 250 kilometres up in the North and you reach the Shivaliks, the lower Himalayas. However, this time, I wanted to explore something new, far from the crowd of popular hill stations like Shimla or Mussoorie. So, I decided to visit Nepal on my recently purchased bike – Royal Enfield Thunderbird. Here comes my log of a bike trip from Delhi to Nepal, which I did in August 2013.

From Delhi the nearest border town of Nepal is Mahendranagar. Drive straight towards the east for 340 kilometres and reach Banbasa border. For me, it took around 8 hours by following this route.
